Faith in the Big House (2004)

In the U.S., two million men, women and children are behind bars. Ninety-seven percent will someday be released back into society. Faith in the Big House looks at how faith can turn lives around. It pays tribute to volunteers who bring hope to the incarcerated and help create safer communities.

Country musicians like the late Johnny Cash, Christian rockers, rappers, and bluegrass performers draw standing room only audiences in the penitentiary. They are joined by entertainers of all stripes, from local gospel singers to Bikers for Jesus.

Christian prison ministries organize weekend chapel retreats that replace prison routine with hymns and home cooking. Volunteers soon discover that many prisoners can rebuild meaningful lives. Notorious ex-cons arrive bearing advice and inspiration. Inmates find redemption for a moment or a lifetime.

As budgets for social services are cut, faith-based rehabilitation programs in prisons have grown, causing concern over favoritism and religious freedom. Faith in the Big House examines all sides of the issue.

Interlock Media's prison documentaries are broadcast and distributed on DVD in domestic and overseas markets. Executive Producer, Richard Strattons, wrote the motion picture SLAM, made prison documentaries for HBO (America Under Cover) and produced the hit Showtime series Street Time.

"I didn't get letters from the bartenders, the hoodlums and all the wise guys I hung around with. I got letters from Christians I didn't even know" Jack Roland Murphy, formerly "Murf the Surf"
